Ghiaccio forte

Tenuta Ghiaccio Forte is the fruit of Sandro and Filippo Chia’s desire to share their knowledge of viticulture in Maremma, giving life to wines that are closely bound to their territory of origin.

Ghiaccio Forte

Ghiaccio Forte is a solitary hill that rises on the plains of southern Maremma where an Etruscan settlement founded in 6th century BC once stood.

This fortified stronghold guarded the crossroads that united Central and Southern Italy and its remains are still visible not far from where the winery is located.

history

The Tenuta Ghiaccio Forte estate spans 100 hectares in the southernmost reaches of the Morellino di Scansano appellation, facing the Tyrrhenian Sea. Of these, 11 hectares are dedicated to Sangiovese for the production of the estate’s flagship wine, Ghiaccio Forte Morellino di Scansano DOCG crafted exclusively from 100% Sangiovese since the 2018 vintage.

A solitary and towering hillock with a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape, it is no coincidence that the Etruscans chose this important crossroads between the coast and the hinterland, between Tuscany and Lazio, to build the fortified city of Ghiaccio Forte that inspired the winery’s name.

Following years of experimentation and rigorous selection in the vineyard, Tenuta GhiaccioForte has identified and refined varietal purity, embodied by Ghiaccio Forte, Morellino Scansano Docg, made from 100% Sangiovese.

The wine at Tenuta Ghiaccio Forte is born of conviction shaped by exacting decisions and deep agronomic insight, a journey that began with the estate’s acquisition in 1999.

Sandro and Filippo Chia, driven by passion and guided by knowledge, pursue a singular goal: to express the soul of Sangiovese in harmony with the land. Every choice in the vineyard reflects this commitment to purity and place.
